Sean moved to China in 2016 and very quickly found himself working at Xinhua. After a stint writing 80% of scripts for their TV studio (dissolved) and commentaries, he jumped ship to China Daily. There he launched their first political commentary video series — 20 million views in six months, so says the National Award submission.

Reading the room, he left China in November 2021. And (not so coincidentally) only then began tweeting about his bizarre experiences and more general thoughts about Chinese state media.

Sean now lives a quiet life in the South West, UK where he can be found eating doughnuts, climbing sand dunes, watching theatre, out on his bike, or feeling uncomfortable writing in the third person.

He misses làzijī, his old football team, and ~70% of his old colleagues.

He turns down 95% media requests.
But he does like beer, coffees and chats with interesting people. Hint.

You can also find him on BlueSky.
